Non-Profits Fee Exemption

I received an email from a subscriber asking, "how this new ordinance effects non-profit organizations. Are we exempt from needing to make this switch."

The new law exempts bona fide federally tax exempt non-profits from the business permit fees, but not from actually obtaining a permit and complying with all of the requirements. If you had a business permit under the old law with the police department, you have until September 30th to transfer the permit to the Department of Public Health. Otherwise, you will have to file a new application. New non-profit establishments also have to pay the fees for all of the required initial inspections by non-DPH departments.
